Gangland (2007)
S1E1 American Gangster
Episode Overview
American Gangster chronicles the journeys of Frank Lucas and Leroy "Nicky" Barnes as they rise from small-time hustlers to dominant figures in New York's drug scene during the 1970s. At the peak of this drug-fueled era, Lucas and his crew, known as "The Country Boys," claimed to have trafficked heroin from Asia hidden in the coffins of deceased American soldiers. Meanwhile, Barnes led a coalition of African-American drug dealers called "The Council" and gained notoriety by appearing on the cover of New York Times Magazine with the title "Mr. Untouchable." President Carter was so outraged that he instructed the Attorney General to take action against him. This gripping tale captures the violence and intensity of Harlem's drug lords.
